How to Fit Your 2WA Armour: A Step-by-Step Guide
Getting your armour fitted correctly is one of the most important things you can do before your first ride in new 2WA gear.
Our CE Level II viscoelastic armour is soft, flexible, and designed to be inserted and adjusted by you — but there's a right way to do it. Follow this guide and you'll have it sorted in minutes.
What You Need to Know First
Our armour is viscoelastic — meaning it's soft and highly flexible at rest, but hardens on impact to absorb and distribute force. Don't be surprised by how pliable it feels in your hands. That's exactly how it's supposed to feel. If your armour has been sitting for a while or has a lower temperature it may feel slightly harder, this will soften with handling and body heat.
All armour inserts are rolled to fit through the pocket opening, then unrolled inside the pocket to fill it completely. This applies to shoulder, elbow, knee, shin, and back armour.
Step 1: Turn the Garment Inside Out
Before inserting any armour, turn the garment completely inside out. This gives you clear access to all armour pockets and lets you see exactly where each piece needs to sit.
Step 2: Locate the Armour Pockets
With the garment inside out, identify each armour pocket. They are clearly positioned at the anatomical zones they protect:
- Shoulders and elbows on shirts, hoodies, and jackets
- Hips, knees, and shins on pants
- Back panel on jackets, shirts and hoodies
Each pocket has a Velcro closure tab to secure the armour once inserted.
Step 3: Roll and Insert the Armour
Take the armour insert and roll it from both outer edges toward the centre — like rolling a scroll from both ends inward. This reduces its width enough to slide cleanly through the pocket opening.
Before inserting, check the orientation: the side of the armour that sits against your body should be facing toward you when the garment is inside out. Insert it facing the correct way — don't flip it once it's in.
For Ghost armour specifically: ensure the nodes are facing outward (away from your body) when inserted. The nodded surface faces out; the flat soft surface faces your body.
Slide the rolled armour into the pocket, then move to Step 4.
Step 4: Unroll and Seat the Armour
Once the armour is inside the pocket, unroll it so it fills the full pocket area. Then stretch the pocket fabric backwards and forwards over the armour until the insert is completely filling the pocket with no bunching or folding.
Close the Velcro tab firmly to secure it in place.
Step 5: Adjust for Your Body
Our garments are designed with adjustable armour placement to suit different body proportions.
Elbow and forearm armour (shirts and hoodies): try different pocket positions to find where the armour sits directly over your elbow joint when your arm is in a natural riding position. The correct position is over the elbow — not above or below it.
Knee and shin armour (pants): determine which pocket position best aligns the armour with your knee. The armour should sit centred over the kneecap when you're seated in riding position. Adjust up or down to suit your leg length.
Step 6: Back Armour
Back armour plates follow the same roll-to-insert method. Roll from both outer edges to the centre, insert into the back panel pocket, unroll fully inside the pocket, and stretch the pocket to seat the armour flat. Close the Velcro tab.
To remove back armour for washing, simply open the Velcro tab, roll the armour from both sides to the centre, and slide it out.
Step 7: Turn the Garment Right-Side Out
Once all armour is inserted and secured, turn the garment back the right way. It may feel slightly different with the armour in — that's normal. The garment and armour are designed for this.
Off the bike, the fit will feel relaxed and the armour will sit slightly loose — that's intentional. Our protective streetwear is designed to look and feel like premium streetwear when you're not riding. When you mount the bike and move into riding position, the garment lifts and shifts, the armour migrates into its protective position, and everything locks into place.
Removing Your Pants After a Ride
With armour in, pants can feel snug to remove — especially after a long ride. The easiest method:
- Pull the pants down far enough to begin turning them inside out
- As you pull each leg out, turn the pants inside out as you go
- Pull your legs and feet out through the cuffs as the pants invert
This is significantly easier than trying to pull them straight off and we recommend it as standard practice.
If your pants don't need washing after a ride, leave them hanging inside out to air out for a day before storing or wearing again.
That's It
Properly fitted armour takes minutes to set up and stays in position ride after ride. Get it right once and your gear will perform exactly as it was designed to — every time.
